Six degrees of separation is the theory that anyone on the planet can be connected to any other person on the planet through a chain of acquaintances that has no more than five intermediaries. The theory was first proposed in 1929 by the Hungarian writer Frigyes Karinthy in a short story called “Chains.”

In the 1950′s, Ithiel de Sola Pool (MIT) and Manfred Kochen (IBM) set out to prove the theory mathematically. Although they were able to phrase the question (given a set N of people, what is the probability that each member of N is connected to another member via k_1, k_2, k_3…k_n links?), after twenty years they were still unable to solve the problem to their own satisfaction. In 1967, American sociologist Stanley Milgram devised a new way to test the theory, which he called “the small-world problem.” He randomly selected people in the mid-West to send packages to a stranger located in Massachusetts. The senders knew the recipient’s name, occupation, and general location. They were instructed to send the package to a person they knew on a first-name basis who they thought was most likely, out of all their friends, to know the target personally. That person would do the same, and so on, until the package was personally delivered to its target recipient.

Although the participants expected the chain to include at least a hundred intermediaries, it only took (on average) between five and seven intermediaries to get each package delivered. Milgram’s findings were published in Psychology Today and inspired the phrase “six degrees of separation.” Playwright John Guare popularized the phrase when he chose it as the title for his 1990 play of the same name. Although Milgram’s findings were discounted after it was discovered that he based his conclusion on a very small number of packages, six degrees of separation became an accepted notion in pop culture after Brett C. Tjaden published a computer game on the University of Virginia’s Web site based on the small-world problem. Tjaden used the Internet Movie Database (IMDB) to document connections between different actors. Time Magazine called his site, The Oracle of Bacon at Virginia, one of the “Ten Best Web Sites of 1996.”

In 2001, Duncan Watts, a professor at Columbia University, continued his own earlier research into the phenomenon and recreated Milgram’s experiment on the Internet. Watts used an e-mail message as the “package” that needed to be delivered, and surprisingly, after reviewing the data collected by 48,000 senders and 19 targets (in 157 countries), Watts found that the average number of intermediaries was indeed, six. Watts’ research, and the advent of the computer age, has opened up new areas of inquiry related to six degrees of separation in diverse areas of network theory such as as power grid analysis, disease transmission, graph theory, corporate communication, and computer circuitry.

I just came across this funny news about the vice president candidate Sarah Palin who is living a scandelous life starting with the steps she took before coming into the government that is firing some high officials but what i wanted to share was the celebrity side of Sarah which shows she is not a true politition at all, but you’re not a real tabloid star until you’ve been hacked right? (Ask Paris Hilton) lol ;-) . How can I believe that the online security of such a politition is so weak. I mean hacker could get into private (Scandelous in case of Sarah) emails and put them on public domain for everyone to have a good day laugh after the hectic day. I enjoyed the emails pretty much. Even CBS news made them available through there website (as said on Jimmey Kimmel Live).Tell me do all government employee’s have easily hackable emails or is Palin just not up on her Internet skills (LOL).

There’s really not much to write about in this article, so here’s the gist: Pam Anderson showed up to a fashion show in London with a date … and he was wearing a bizarre white mask with white hands to match. That’s really it.Pam Anderson and her masked date. Who could it be? Why wear the mask? Should we even care? Doesn’t the mask kinda look like Daniel Craig? I think it was Micheal Jackson.

Solution for slow PCs

Computers which are being used for atleast 6 months have quite alot of data already being put by the user and you always loose track of which files you wanted and which you didn’t. Alot of bulk causes the system to slow down from its normal speed which was experienced on the time of its purchase. I came up with these following steps to fasten your computer as I myself had alot of bulk but now im getting myself managed which has helped me to browse throught my computer easily and smoothly.

Firstly clean out old files. This is like cleaning out your closet after a long period of time which is a real pain in the a$$ for people lazy like me =p. Ill tell u what to do just clear out all those old pictures, videos, emails and documents that you don’t want anymore and simply DELETE them or if you really want them to stay with you forever just back em up on some storage device and delete from your computer. This way the less hard disk you use, the less processes are needed and that results in a faster and healthier CPU ;-) . Also never fill all of the space on your desktop with shortcuts and don’t fill out the whole start menu.

Secondly, Organize and Clear Out Your Internet files
If you’re like the average person, you’ve been doing a lot of Web searching and your Internet Explorer Favorites folder may be bursting at the seams. It could probably use some weeding out and organizing. To organize your Favorites in Internet Explorer, on the Favorites menu, click Organize Favorites.
Start Internet Explorer and on the Tools menu click Internet Options. In the General tab of the Internet Options dialog box, you have two cleanup choices. These steps can help reduce some unnecessary files on your computer. Obviously websites sometimes need to store their temporary data in your computer for faster browse the next time you open the site or either stores you personel information such as login information in files called cookies. Clean them out, you don’t need to keep them always with you, you do have a good memory right? use it !. This also helps you to stay safe from adwares and spywares from crawling into your computer. So here is a picture of what to do.
