Rapper DMX was sentenced to 90 days in jail Friday for convictions on theft, drug-possession and animal-cruelty charges.
Rapper DMX sentenced to 90 days for felonies
DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, also was placed on at least 18 months’ supervised probation by Maricopa County Superior Court Commissioner Phemonia Miller.

Simmons pleaded guilty Dec. 30 to three felony counts — theft, possession or use of marijuana, and possession or use of narcotic drugs — and one misdemeanor count of animal cruelty.

The 38-year-old rapper has been in the Maricopa County Jail since being arrested Dec. 9 in Miami on a warrant after failing to appear in court in Phoenix. His attorney, Stephen Lee Crawford, didn’t immediately return calls seeking comment.

The Arizona Republic reported that Simmons was smiling as he entered the courtroom but sat down writhing in pain and subsequently said he had pain in his feet and knees and thought he was suffering from gout.

Miller told him she was sentencing Earl Simmons, not DMX, the newspaper reported. “I don’t know DMX. Mr. Simmons, it’s time you do something different,” she said. “What you have been doing is not working.”

Despite the prosecutor’s objections, Miller said she would allow Simmons to apply to serve his sentence in Florida, the Republic said.

The animal-cruelty and drug charges stem from an August 2007 raid that Maricopa County sheriff’s deputies conducted at Simmons’ home in Cave Creek, a Phoenix suburb. Authorities investigating a report of animal abuse found three dead dogs, guns, ammunition and drug paraphernalia.

He was not given credit for time served and will not get out of jail until the end of April, said Mike Anthony Scerbo, a spokesman for Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, which prosecuted the case.

DMX’s albums include “It’s Dark and Hell is Hot,” “Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood” and “Year of the Dog … Again.”

Dr Dre Detoxifies

Detox is the third and the final studio album by the great rapper and producer Dr Dre. The album was supposed to be released in 2004 but there were change of plans. Dre wanted to concentrate on the albums of his signed rappers before coming up with his own. Dr Dre plans to have 12 or 13 tracks for the album but he has prepared 18 tracks for it. The best thing about the album is that it features some of my all time favorite rappers taking 50cent for instance. He has been reported to have said that he did 2 tracks with Dre for the album. Now let’s see which one makes it to the album. Maybe both do but that’s a big question mark until the album is officially released after a long delay. When you put a new album against the last two classics, people will scrutinize it if they become impatient but I think the album is going to be worth it as Dr Dre is a perfectionist when it comes to his work. There’s another cool thing. On the day of the release of “Detox” Dr Dre and Drinks Americas will jointly introduce a drink called “Aftermath Cognac” after the name of Dre’s record label “Aftermath Records” as part of a marketing plan. Dre has been reported for doing a lot of live instrumental drums and pianos for his album; let’s see what all that is about. Dre recently told MTV that he will be releasing his album right after 50cent’s “Before I Self Destruct” which is already out now and Eminem’s “Relapse” that is due to be released in the first quarter of 2009. A pretty long wait for Dre fans specially for me it’s a bit too long but who knows what the brilliant doc’s mind is thinking. Moreover Dr Dre bought a beat for Detox from producer J. R. Rotem in 2003, going so far as to record a track, “It Ain’t a Thing”. In January 2004, co-producer Scott Storch listed guest appearances by 50 Cent, Eminem, The Game, Guvner, Knoc-turn’al, Lloyd Banks, and Snoop Dogg. Aftermath-affiliated producers Dawaun Parker, Hi-Tek, DJ Khalil, and Focus are also working with Dr Dre. Also Devin the Dude claimed to have accepted an invitation to record for the album. Mike Elizondo has recorded bass guitar parts for Detox. Billboard revealed that J. R. Rotem will produce for the album. RZA announced that he co-produced a track with Dr Dre that features Marsha Ambrosius, which could be on Detox. MP3.com has reported that Busta Rhymes and Snoop Dogg have also contributed to the album. Jay-Z and Warren G stated that they worked with Dr Dre. In March 2005, Aftermath producer Mel-Man said that Dr Dre and he himself have made hundreds of beats for Detox. In July 2008, it was confirmed that Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, and Nas will be among guests on the album. In August 2008, Ice Cube also stated he is likely to be featured. In October 2008, Dr Dre’s former assistant, Bruce Williams, said Fergie might be featured on the album. So on the whole it’s quite a big thing you know what I mean. It features the hottest artists and the hottest producers for sure. Let’s wait and see what the album is all about and Dre says it’s all conceptual.

A few days ago 50cent released the latest single from his upcoming album “Before I Self Destruct” called “Get-Up”. The track has been produced by Scott Storch that makes it pretty much obvious about how amazing the rap is going to be. For me the track is a bomb. Last year Kayne West won the most records sales challenge from 50cent but this time 50cent is going to kick kanye’s ass for sure. The video of Get Up is available on Youtube and the album releases in feburary 2009 (if not delayed). I have the album cover so here check it out.
